Sustainable building with wood
Do you want to build sustainably with wood? Wood is a sustainable material because the raw material wood grows relatively quickly and each board stores CO2, thus contributing to the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere.
At Zwarthout | Shou Sugi Ban, we produce charred wood. The facades of our charred varieties are maintenance-free and therefore do not require periodic painting. If you want to build sustainably with wood with little future maintenance, then charred wood is the best choice.
Why build sustainably with wood?
Our responsibility for the environment and the world we live in starts with the choices we make, no matter how big or small. After all, small adjustments can make a big difference. When we build with wood, we are already making a conscious step in the right direction. Not all wood is equally sustainable: it depends on where it comes from.
At Zwarthout l Shou Sugi Ban, we consciously choose timbers from sustainably managed forests. Every year, we plant trees back and our suppliers, including the Forestry Commission, also plant trees back.
Sustainable wood for our clients
Since 2012, we have been burning wood for leading architects and designers. Clients who, like us, love the perfect look, the highest quality and want to make a statement with a sustainable, exclusive and natural product.
All our clients can replant the equivalent of the wood they buy during the annual Zwarthout Tree Planting Day in one of the estates surrounding our company. This allows us and our clients to watch our ‘own’ trees grow over the years.
